I believe that, if a female passes all the required tests and shows in training that she is capable of the position, she should be allowed to hold the position of referee in any sport the same as any male.

Through the author's experience and information she passed along....I realized I did not know all I thought I did about certain sports. I like the fact that in order to be a ref, they have to be tested, annually, and pass the test with a 100% score.

This is a very well done site. Very well thought out, with tons of great statistics, history and commentary.
Qualifications for officials vary by state and by association, I believe. For instance, I officiate high school football in Idaho and our requirement to do varsity games is 80 out of 100 on the final test. I admire those associations who require 100 percent. Wow!
I think that of all the comments I could make regarding officiating, the one I would like players, fans and parents to see is that we, as officials (at least 99 percent of us), don't care who wins the game! Truly we don't. We don't want to be a part of the game; we just want to administer it.
Again, to the author, wonderful job on this web site and best wishes going forward in your athletic and officiating careers.

Great job Taylor. Glad you got into the WOA and it looks like you are passionate about officiating and moving up. Anytime you want to talk basketball officiating let me know. My only suggestion would be to tap into facilities. I think to many schools don't have contingency plans of have opposite genders come and officiate (at least in Whitman County) so dressing rooms/showers are located in different parts of the school which makes it harder to pregame and postgame. Let me know if you ever need anything, officiating or for this project.

Nice work! It is interesting that of about 20 females that were first year officials with you, many dropped out. Do you have any insight as to why they didn't complete the training? It seems to me that recruiting and retention of female officials is a challenge to overcome. Maybe you can help with that as you talk to your friends about officiating.
Interestingly, there seems to be a shortage of officials for local sports so I would think interested and qualified people of either gender would be welcome.
